Obviously, Google is the king of search. Sure, Bing has made impressive strides and some people will never stray from Yahoo! but when it comes to search, Google is where it’s at and has by far the largest share of the search market. Google is so much more than a search engine and has become a part of our everyday lives. As a business owner you want your website to perform well in Google in order to get traffic which will turn into sales and leads. A popular consensus in SEO circles is to optimize your website for Google. If it performs well there, it will perform well in the other search engines too. Since we have all put Google up on this high and mighty pedestal, it’s understandable that we need to be aware of any changes going on within Google and the Google search algorithm. It’s just important to keep this in check, and not stress out whenever a change is made.

Google has become more transparent with search algorithm changes in recent months. This is excellent because it provides SEOs and website owners with more information that allows us to ensure that our web properties are following the rules. At the same time, it has lead to unnecessary “freak outs”.
What we need to remember is that Google has always been making algorithm changes. We just weren’t always aware of the details. This is obviously something that is important to pay attention to, but not obsess over. Many changes are minor and only affect a small percentage of sites. Spending too much time worrying about it can throw you off track and keep you from other important business initiatives. If you are working with an SEO firm, get their input on algorithm changes, and if you aren’t working with an SEO firm, spend some time reading top SEO blogs, but don’t let it consume you or keep you up at night. Google wants to provide its users with the best possible results and provides Webmasters with many tools that allow them to develop a well optimized website that follows a white hat strategy. As long as you have been following the guidelines set forth by Google, there isn’t any need to worry. Don’t change your whole strategy just because Google is making some algorithm tweaks. Pay attention to your analytics and see if you notice any trends and then make changes if you’ve been affected over time. Hasty decisions are often bad decisions.
