It seems the Poker Bill put forward by Joe Barton looking to legalize internet poker is going to be a huge uphill battle. The biggest concerns are money laundering and protection of consumers by fraudsters and other criminal elements.

National president of the Fraternal order of Police ,Chuck Canterbury said it would take years for them to, technologically, be in a position to control this, and one of the biggest fears is that terrorist organisations and organised crime would use this for money laundering.

At the moment each state determines whether they will allow internet poker or gambling, and although the casinos and internet gambling organisations are taking what they can get, they all would prefer a nation wide regime. Geoff Freeman, chairman of the American Gaming Association says internet poker is a reality and here to stay. The gaming industry is under threat by the gambling expansion free for all that could take place at state level unless the Federal Government takes some urgent action.

No action was taken by the committee at the end of the hearing on the 17th.
